CYCLES
Here is an interview with Hong Chu because of my interest in climate change patterns, as well as ancient Chinese algorithms and their predictive applications. Every year, he mysteriously predicts whether the coming winter or summer will be warmer or colder than usual. Whenever I ask him how he does it, he remains elusive. At first, I thought he was simply relying on large-scale data predictions, but over time, I realized that his forecasts are based on rigorous calculations. Due to his work in energy efficiency and new energy, he has studied the Dao of cyclical change, often referred to as the philosophy of “harmony between heaven and humanity”. His predictions are not based on fortune-telling or mysticism but rather on identifying patterns in CYCLES through meticulous research and calculations. He has even developed a way to simplify his findings so that an outsider like me can understand basic methods for predicting whether the coming winter will be mild or harsh.
Ancient Chinese calendars recorded time in years, months, days, and even hours through intricate numerical principles, forming a system that is both profound and precise. The cyclical changes in nature, celestial movements, and human affairs—such as climate patterns, seasonal shifts, and even their impact on health, medicine, agriculture, and the economy—have long influenced people’s lives. What fascinates me the most is that my dad’s method of calculation does not rely on numerical values but instead on mathematical patterns formed by the arrangement of Chinese characters.
